Hello Friends!!
If you are following my blog Southern Nomad, then you may have heard the BIG NEWS - I am moving to New York. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time and I am super excited to finally have the chance to visit some of the places I have been blogging about: Ernest Alexander, Modern Anthology, Sweetleaf, D. S. & Durga, hOmE and Mast Brothers Chocolate to name a few.
I wanted to drop you all this quick note for two reasons:
1 - I am looking for a part-time job in New York while I attend college for a Media, Arts and Culture degree. I have experience in: strategic marketing, events, social media and so much more! If you have any leads I would so appreciate your sending them my way at asouthernnomad@gmail.com
2 - I will be blogging on Southern Nomad about the city, artists/creatives, small businesses, and any other beautiful treasures I discover. Do you have any recommendations about places I should visit? I would love to add them to my growing list :)
Thank you all for being such amazing followers and I am excited to keep you up to date on this crazy, wild, amazing adventure. Please let me know if you have questions, thoughts, etc.

// New York City: Dreams Come True//

I am excited to announce that I will be moving to New York City in August!

As you join me on my journey via Southern Nomad, letters, Skype calls, texts, instagram, etc.  I hope you will be inspired by seeing a dream come true and the knowledge of knowing some dreams are so worth holding onto..I am sure there are going to be highs and lows, and I so value your encouragement, advice, etc.

Are you ready?! Am I ready?! Ok I am freaking out a wee bit… like when your heart beats a little faster because you are just a ball of emotions…To help me begin to focus on some of the practicals, I would love to hear:

  • What are your favorite books, blogs, music, movies, restaurants related to New York City?
  • Also, I am curious do any of my followers currently live in New York? If so, do you have any tips for my big move?

Ps - I can’t wait to visit some of the new york spots I have recently blogged about: The Nomad Hotel,Ernest AlexanderSunday Suppers  and Mast Brothers Chocolate to name a few..

Pss- This is just an excerpt and you can read my full post here.

// Fashion: Troubadour//

Literally, just yesterday I was whining about how it is hard to find brands that really embody that current “Brooklyn Hipster/Creative” style for ladies. You know the men have: Ernest AlexanderThe Brooklyn Circus, etc. I feel that these days it’s quite easier for to nail the key ingredients for guys: roll up those pants boys, make sure to layer with texture and patterns, pull on those oxfords, and most importantly grow that beard.

Ladies! Just imagine how thrilled I was to stumble upon Troubadour by Lindsey Carter. And I bet many of you will not be surprised by the fact that the line comes out of Charleston, South Carolina… There is a lot hapenning over there these days..

Don’t you just love the photos from Troubadour’s Spring/Summer 2012 Lookbook? I am definitely inspired. I have been trying to figure out how to transition my neutrals from winter to summer and now I feel infused with some briliant ideas.

“American Craft companies are literally turning the models for corporate responsibility upside down by embedding the common good into the DNA of their companies instead of adding it as the cherry on top to their marketing.”

“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler…”

I know I post a lot of fashion inspiration on this blog for the ladies, so every once in awhile I try to balance things out. Have you noticed I have been beating a bit of a New York drum lately? Is it my fault that I keep finding out about more and more amazing brands which happen to be based in New York?

Ernest Alexander is another such compelling company and while they do have products available online, it can also be fun to just take a peek and be inspired by their way of putting quality materials together. The Ernest Alexander brand is yet another to take advantage of the current “Made in America/American Craftsmanship” trend.

ps - who wouldn’t want to visit a place where afternoon conversation can lead to a bottle of scotch being pulled out to share with you

More about the brand:

“I’m a big believer that the finer details in life matter. Accessories are no different. From the way a bag falls against your side to the perfect placement of buttons on a shirt, it’s the little things that shape your daily experience. I launched Ernest Alexander with a simple vision in mind. Create handcrafted accessories in the old tradition, adding a touch of style and a bit of modern aesthetic. Clean lines. Heritage materials. Authentic finishes. Functionality. Hard-to-find fabrics. These are the things that make for a distinctive, wearable experience. I also believe that the way we make things is equally as important. That’s why we’ve chosen to manufacture our line here in the USA using craftsmen schooled in the longstanding traditions of quality, heritage and purpose. Thank you for visiting Ernest Alexander and we hope you enjoy our line as much as we enjoy creating it.” - Ernest
